Many Christians struggle with the issue of tithing. Although it was first mentioned (Gen 14), and presumably practiced before the institution of the Mosaic Law (pre-law), the tithe was a requirement of the law in which all Israelites were to give 10 percent of everything they earned, shepherded or harvested to the continual support of the Tabernacle/Temple (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; 2 Chronicles 31:5). Free Dictionary(online) defines the “tithe” 1) A tenth part of ones annual income contributed voluntarily or due as a tax, especially for the support of the clergy or church. 2) A tax or assessment of one tenth. 3) A tenth part. Word History: A tithe is a tenth, etymologically (eh-teh-moh-logic-hah-lee) speaking. _____ Please join us this evening as we outline our teaching series "Tithe$, The Tithe, Tithing and Offerings".
